A new vision for the 10th District

My name is Jeff Barnett, and I am running for Congress in Virginia's 10th Congressional District.

Forty years ago I answered the call to serve when I took the oath for the United States Air Force. Today I am stepping up to serve again. I am running for Congress because our district needs someone who believes in stepping up to our problems, not passing the buck to the next generation of Virginia. We need to start solving our problems now. In our time. On our dime. We need to focus on producing economic growth while helping families keep their homes, sparking the next generation of job growth, creating the next generation of transportation, and achieving national security.  I hope you will take a look around and follow the links to learn more about me. Don't forget to take a minute to sign up for our email list to receive updates on my campaign.  Thank you for visiting my campaign website, I'll see you out on the campaign trail.

Jim Moran on Why Frank Wolf has to Go

Congressman Jim Moran from the neighboring 8th District stopped by our fundraiser on Wednesday and gave a great speech on why Frank Wolf has to go. Check it out below! The video was taken by Lowell over at Blue Virginia.

From Jeff: Thank You Rich Anthony

This morning I spoke with my Democratic opponent Richard Anthony. He informed me that, for medical reasons, he would no longer be a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 10th Congressional District.

Last Night's Debate: A Great Night for the Campaign

Last night, Jeff participated in the first debate of the Democratic Primary campaign. If you had the opportunity to watch, you saw what I saw: during a lively debate on foreign affairs, domestic policy, and local matters, Jeff emerged as the clear front-runner for the Democratic nomination.

We've embedded last night's debate in full below so you can see what a great job Jeff did. (Video may take a minute or two to load)

From Jeff: Housing Crisis Far From Over

Cross posted at Blue Commonwealth

You’ve heard me say that housing is a bedrock issue of my campaign. Our government let big banks treat our housing market like a casino – and has not fixed the problem. As a result, thousands of Virginians live in fear of losing their homes.

Unfortunately the housing crisis is far from over.

From Jeff: Look Who Frank Wolf is Aligning Himself With Now

Every day Frank Wolf continues his march to the far right. In his latest escapade, Wolf joined a Cheney/Kristol assault on our legal system.

Last week Liz Cheney and William Kristol's "Keep America Safe" group released an attack ad on the Obama administration. It insinuates that lawyers who represented detainees at Guantanamo Bay in the past somehow share the values of the people they represented. The ad is entitled, "DOJ: Department of Jihad?"

An Update from the Campaign Trail

Our campaign was all over the district this past week.

Literally.

We put a lot of miles on the odometer, making stops in Leesburg, Lansdowne, Great Falls, Winchester, Front Royal, and Sterling. At each stop, Jeff drew praise for his viability as a candidate to take on Frank Wolf in the fall, his answers to the difficult questions he was asked, and his positions on the issues that the voters in this district care about the most.

From Jeff: Thank You Dennis

At last night’s Dranesville Democratic Committee meeting, Dennis Findley announced he is ending his campaign for Congress.

Dennis’ campaign for the 10th District nomination was an inspiration. He saw something he didn’t like, in this case the way our Republican Congressman fails special needs children, and he decided to step up and do something about it. I was honored to share the campaign trail with him.

From Jeff: Delegate Bob Marshall's Comments Undermine Our Political Discourse

Cross posted on Blue Commonwealth

Last Thursday, Republican Delegate Bob Marshall made this unconscionable statement during a press conference:

An Exciting Week on the Campaign Trail

Last week was our most exciting week on the campaign trail yet! Jeff crisscrossed the District -- listening to voters' concerns, outlining his ideas, and sharing his new vision for the 10th District. Our campaign got great insights into issues that will shape this election. One theme was constant across the board: Jeff got fantastic reviews. Democrats across the 10th are beginning to believe Jeff can turn the District blue in November.
